LG Electronics continues to secure major commercial contract wins in the European heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) market. The South Korean tech giant is expanding its footprint by outperforming global rivals through localized engineering solutions and proprietary energy-efficient technologies.
The company is currently supplying high-efficiency, large-capacity heat pump systems to approximately 1,500 residential units across Southern and Eastern Europe. The rollout includes a 1,000-unit housing complex near Madrid, Spain, and 500 premium apartments across two upscale residences in Belgrade, Serbia.
For the residential development in Spain, LG is deploying its flagship Multi V i Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) systems. LG edged out competitors during the early bidding stages by closely aligning with local regulatory and structural requirements throughout the design, certification and installation phases. A critical factor in winning the contract was LG's proprietary one-port refrigerant shut-off valve unit, a safety mechanism that detects and isolates leaks. Engineered to be significantly smaller and lighter than rival offerings, the compact unit maximizes space utilization and simplifies installation within Europe's typically constrained residential footprints.
In Belgrade, LG is supplying both Multi V i and Multi V s systems to the high-profile King's Circle and The One residences. These systems streamline climate control by enabling a single outdoor unit to handle cooling, heating and hot water supply simultaneously, eliminating the need for a separate heat recovery unit. This simplified architecture significantly reduces installation costs and structural complexity for the developers.
The Multi V i system delivers substantial energy savings through a high-efficiency inverter compressor paired with an AI-based smart control system. It also utilizes R32 refrigerant, which has a Global Warming Potential (GWP) at roughly 30 percent of conventional R410A, enabling compliance with stringent European environmental mandates.
LG is further strengthening its eco-friendly lineup with the Therma V R290 Monobloc, an air-source heat pump running on R290 refrigerant, which features an ultra-low GWP of about 0.02. This proactive portfolio expansion allows LG to stay ahead of tightening environmental regulations, such as the European Union's revised F-gas Regulation.
The European heat pump market is growing rapidly, propelled by electrification initiatives that mandate low-carbon heating in new buildings, alongside the EU's REPowerEU framework. According to the European Heat Pump Association (EHPA), heat pump sales across 16 major European countries reached around 2.6 million units in a recent year, marking a double-digit year-on-year increase. Market research firm MMR Statistics forecasts that the European heat pump market will expand to approximately $46 billion by 2032.
LG has built significant momentum in the region, securing consecutive heat pump contracts for new housing developments in Dutch cities including Eindhoven and Ridderkerk. The company has already surpassed 100,000 installations across five Southern European nations, including France and Spain.
