LG U+ is venturing into the U.S. for the first time to secure talent in the information security field. Recognizing that securing information security capabilities is essential for future business competitiveness in telecommunications, artificial intelligence (AI), and other areas, the company is making a full-scale effort to recruit domestic and international experts.
According to industry sources on the 9th, LG U+ plans to hold the talent recruitment and networking program 'US Fair' in Chicago, U.S., on September 12 and 13 (local time).
The US Fair, which has been conducted since 2023, is a Korean talent recruitment program in North America. It targets Korean nationals with bachelor's, master's, or doctoral degrees, or experienced professionals residing in the U.S. and Canada, and recruits them through document screening, practical assessments, and interviews. Notably, alongside the recruitment process, key executives from LG U+ will directly participate to explain the company's R&D status, technology roadmap strategies, and facilitate networking opportunities.
This year's event marks the first recruitment drive for information security experts. LG Uplus has previously focused on hiring talent specialized in AI, including large language models (LLMs), natural language processing (NLP), and speech recognition. This year, the company plans to target North American talent with a focus on information security, specifically in areas such as △security solution operations and network security △public cloud security △incident response and analysis △AI data security engineering.
While the event was held in Silicon Valley for two consecutive years, it will take place in Chicago this year. The decision was made due to the city's proximity to major universities in the Midwest, including the University of Chicago, Northwestern University, and the Illinois Institute of Technology, as well as its well-established research infrastructure, which is ideal for attracting top Korean-American talent.
On the event day, key executives are expected to attend, including Chief Technology Officer (CTO) Sang-yeop Lee, Chief Human Resources Officer (CHO) Hyo-seok Yang, and Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) Kwan-hee Hong.
LG Uplus's emphasis on securing information security talent aligns with its recent company-wide efforts to strengthen AI competitiveness. The company is leveraging its AI call agent 'Exio' to innovate customer experience (CX) in telecommunications, enhancing efficiency through AI networks, and exploring future growth opportunities via its AI Data Center (AIDC). To ensure successful AI transformation (AX) and sustainability, the company recognizes that securing 'information security' capabilities is essential.
In fact, LG Uplus previously announced a 700 billion KRW investment in information security over five years following a customer data breach. This year, it became the first domestic telecom company to establish a dedicated AI security organization and recently acquired Pago Networks, a managed detection and response (MDR) security firm.
A company representative stated, “As we expand AI services, strengthening security capabilities is a core priority, which is why we are actively recruiting top security talent. At this year's US Fair, we plan to not only recruit but also invite security experts to share insights on future technologies and industry trends.”
