LG Electronics has launched the “LG e-Paper Display,” a commercial signage solution based on electronic ink panel technology, as the company expands its presence in the B2B signage market. Its key advantage is ultra-low power consumption, significantly reducing energy usage compared to conventional digital signage. The product will first launch in South Korea early next month, followed by a gradual rollout across global markets including Europe.
The LG e-Paper Display uses electronic ink panel technology that displays images by moving and fixing electrically charged color particles through an electric field. Because the screen can maintain an image without continuous power, energy consumption is dramatically lower than traditional digital signage, even when content is updated. This makes it particularly suitable for commercial environments such as restaurant menu boards and promotional signage, where content changes are relatively infrequent.
The display features a 32-inch QHD (2560×1440) resolution with a 16:9 aspect ratio. Thanks to its reflective panel structure, it offers a 180-degree viewing angle without requiring a built-in light source. To overcome the limited color reproduction typically associated with e-paper technology, LG developed its own image-enhancement algorithm to deliver more natural and vivid colors.
Battery performance has also been improved. Equipped with a 72Wh high-capacity battery and an ultra-low-power system-on-chip (SoC), the display can operate for extended periods on a single charge. It takes approximately three hours to fully recharge from a powered-off state. The product also supports wireless charging through a magnetic detachable battery pack mounted on the rear, offering greater installation flexibility. In addition, a “Power Management” feature automatically controls power usage according to user-defined content scheduling, minimizing unnecessary battery consumption.
By eliminating the backlight, LG achieved an ultra-slim form factor measuring just 17.8mm thick, with the thinnest section at 8.6mm. Including the built-in battery, the display weighs only 3.1kg, making it easy to move and install indoors. Its paper-like texture and appearance allow it to blend naturally into a variety of interior environments.
The display runs on webOS, LG's smart platform for TVs and signage solutions. The B2B-optimized version allows users to monitor device status, modify settings, and update content through a web browser interface. When integrated with LG SuperSign CMS, businesses can remotely distribute content simultaneously across multiple e-paper displays and manage deployment schedules. The system also supports content distribution via USB storage devices or clients' own CMS servers, offering flexibility for different business environments.
Min Dong-seon, head of the ID Business Division at LG Electronics' MS Business Unit, said, “The LG e-Paper Display, which combines an ultra-lightweight and ultra-slim design with groundbreaking ultra-low-power technology, will provide B2B customers with a compelling new option.”
