Anysphere, the parent company of AI coding assistant Cursor, is set to be acquired by SpaceX.
The acquisition announcement helped propel SpaceX past Amazon to become the world's fifth-most valuable company by market capitalization.

Cursor is a startup specializing in AI-powered coding automation. The company has emerged as a leader in “vibe coding,” enabling users to generate code through natural-language prompts without requiring extensive programming expertise.
The platform provides an AI-powered integrated development environment (IDE) across multiple operating systems, including Windows, macOS, and Linux. It is designed to boost developer productivity by embedding advanced AI capabilities directly into the coding workflow.
SpaceX had previously secured the right to acquire Cursor for $60 billion within the year as part of an agreement reached in April. The merger was completed through the exercise of that option.
Earlier this year, in February, SpaceX expanded its footprint in artificial intelligence through the acquisition of xAI, the AI company founded by Tesla CEO Elon Musk.
xAI's flagship model, Grok, has often been viewed as lagging behind competing models from OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google in coding-related capabilities. Analysts see the Cursor acquisition as a move to strengthen Grok's software development and coding performance.
News of the planned merger sent SpaceX shares up 10% in early trading on the New York Stock Exchange. The company's market capitalization surpassed $2.7 trillion during the session, making it the world's fifth-largest company by market value.
At one point during the trading day, SpaceX briefly overtook Microsoft to rank fourth globally by market capitalization.
