OpenAI will provide ChatGPT Enterprise and Codex to Samsung Electronics employees worldwide as part of the company's efforts to drive workforce innovation and accelerate enterprise-wide AI transformation.
The deployment will support all Samsung Electronics employees in South Korea, as well as global employees within the Device eXperience (DX) Division. It represents one of the largest enterprise agreements for OpenAI's business products to date.
Samsung Electronics plans to leverage ChatGPT and Codex across a wide range of functions--including software development, marketing, product development, and manufacturing--to enhance employee productivity and problem-solving capabilities.
Within Samsung's secure corporate environment, employees will be able to use ChatGPT and Codex for a variety of knowledge-based tasks, including information search and analysis, document drafting, idea generation, and data interpretation.
Codex is currently used by more than five million people each week across both technical and non-technical roles. In South Korea, the number of weekly active Codex users has increased by nearly 800% since February 1.
Kim Kyung-hoon, Country Head of OpenAI Korea, said, “This deployment is a significant milestone in OpenAI's history because Samsung Electronics, a global technology and manufacturing leader, is adopting AI not as a tool limited to specific teams or functions, but as a core platform to enhance the way employees work and innovate worldwide.”
He added, “OpenAI will work closely with Samsung Electronics to help employees use ChatGPT to execute ideas faster, solve complex problems, and create new products and services.”
OpenAI and Samsung Electronics previously began collaborating in the field of global AI infrastructure. OpenAI is working with Samsung on the supply of advanced memory semiconductors needed to build next-generation AI infrastructure.
Other South Korean companies currently utilizing OpenAI's ChatGPT Enterprise, APIs, and Codex include LG Electronics, LG Uplus, LG CNS, GS Engineering & Construction, Samsung SDS, TVING, Krafton, Toss, Musinsa, Korea Zinc, Nexen Tire, and HanaTour.
