
Samsung Electronics is expected to extend its Privacy Display technology to the upcoming Galaxy S27 Pro, alongside the Galaxy S27 Ultra, as the company seeks to differentiate its premium models from the standard and Plus variants.
According to industry sources, Samsung plans to equip both the Galaxy S27 Pro and Galaxy S27 Ultra with OLED panels featuring Samsung Display's Flex Magic Pixel (FMP) technology. The feature is designed to limit screen visibility from side angles while keeping the display clear for the person viewing it directly.
Flex Magic Pixel is Samsung Display's name for the panel-integrated Privacy Display technology first introduced in a smartphone with the Galaxy S26 Ultra earlier this year. Rather than relying on a separate privacy screen protector, the technology controls OLED viewing angles through the panel's pixel structure.
The design uses a multilayer Black Matrix structure that restricts light spreading sideways from OLED subpixels. By combining OLED's self-emissive characteristics with an engineered viewing-angle-control structure, the panel can make the screen difficult to read from surrounding positions without requiring an external film. Samsung Display describes FMP as a panel-integrated technology that keeps the screen clear from the front while limiting visibility from off-axis angles.
Samsung is also expected to apply Color Filter on Encapsulation, or COE, technology to the Galaxy S27 Pro and Ultra. COE integrates polarization functionality into the OLED encapsulation layer—the protective layer that helps prevent oxygen and moisture from degrading OLED components.
The technology removes the need for a conventional polarizer, creating space within the panel structure for the Black Matrix layers used in the Privacy Display. For that reason, COE is widely viewed as an enabling technology for Samsung's panel-integrated privacy solution.
An industry source said Samsung plans to reserve Privacy Display for its higher-end lineup to distinguish the Pro and Ultra models from the standard Galaxy S27 and Galaxy S27 Plus. Discussions are also underway on possible future applications in other OLED devices, including laptops.
Privacy Display can be applied to the entire screen or selectively activated for specific apps, notifications, and other sensitive content. Unlike conventional privacy films that operate continuously or primarily restrict certain viewing angles, Samsung's solution can be turned on and off through software and is designed to limit visibility from off-axis directions around the device.
Samsung is expected to expand its flagship Galaxy S lineup from three models—standard, Plus, and Ultra—to four models with the addition of the Galaxy S27 Pro. The Pro model is reportedly set to feature a 6.47-inch OLED display, the first of its size in the Galaxy S series, and is expected to share most Ultra-level specifications except S Pen input support.
Privacy Display is emerging as a new differentiating technology in the global smartphone market. Chinese smartphone makers are reportedly reviewing similar panel-integrated privacy-display solutions with domestic display suppliers, while market-research firm Omdia has projected that Apple could introduce the technology in iPhones by 2029.
Samsung has not officially confirmed the final Galaxy S27 lineup or specifications. Reports about Privacy Display availability on the S27 Pro and Ultra are based on industry sources and remain subject to change before launch. Recent reports have differed on whether the technology will be limited to the Pro and Ultra models or could extend to more variants.
