LG CNS announced on the 18th that it is embarking on a partnership with e-commerce company Kurly for humanoid robot verification and logistics automation in logistics centers.
The two companies recently signed a “Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for Humanoid Proof of Concept (PoC) and Logistics Automation Business Cooperation to Advanced Smart Logistics Centers.” Major executives from both companies, including Hur Tae-young, chief operating officer (COO) of Kurly, Park Sang-kyun, head of telecommunications, distribution and service business (executive vice president) of LG CNS, and Lee Jun-ho, head of smart logistics & city business (executive vice president), attended the signing ceremony.
With this agreement, the two companies will pursue △humanoid robot field suitability verification △logistics intelligence solution development △new business opportunity discovery, based on Kurly's logistics infrastructure.
The core is the humanoid robot PoC conducted at Kurly's logistics center. Through the application of robots, the two companies plan to discover logistics tasks that can reduce the workload of workers and increase stability. They also plan to verify the field suitability of LG CNS's robot learning and operation platform, 'PhysicalX'. They will measure and analyze the robot's task accuracy, execution speed, and the level of efficiency improvement compared to existing working methods.
LG CNS will also improve the efficiency of the entire logistics process, from receiving to storage, picking, and shipping, by integrating Kurly's logistics center automation facilities and logistics operating system. Previously, LG CNS carried out the construction projects for Kurly's Gimpo complex logistics center and Changwon logistics center, securing technology to operate room temperature, refrigerated, and frozen environments in one place and logistics know-how for dawn delivery. Based on its retail-tech-based logistics infrastructure accumulated through the dawn delivery of fresh food, Kurly is expanding its product areas to beauty, fashion, and living, and is also strengthening its delivery services.
Based on successful cases of applying humanoid robots within logistics centers, the two companies plan to jointly discover new business opportunities and promote next-generation logistics intelligence based on robots.
“The combination of Kurly's logistics operation know-how and LG CNS's technological capabilities will be able to create meaningful synergy in the field of logistics automation,” said Park, head of telecommunications, distribution and service business (executive vice president) of LG CNS. “Through this cooperation, we will create field-centered innovative technologies,” he said.
