Google Cloud has launched its AI-powered security platform, Google Security Operations (Google SecOps), in South Korea. The move enables local organizations to leverage Google's threat intelligence and AI capabilities while keeping security logs and analytics data stored within the country.
At a press briefing held at Google Korea's office in Samseong-dong, Seoul, on June 17, Google Cloud announced the availability of Google SecOps in its Seoul cloud region.
Google SecOps is a security operations platform that combines Google's global threat intelligence with its Gemini AI models. The solution automates cyber threat detection, investigation, and response processes, helping security teams identify threats in real time and quickly access relevant information for investigations. The platform is expected to improve both the expertise and productivity of security operations teams.
The launch in the Seoul region is aimed at addressing the data management and compliance requirements of Korean enterprises. The Seoul region refers to Google's cloud infrastructure and data centers located in Seoul and the surrounding metropolitan area.
Google Cloud emphasized that the ability to store security logs and analytics data domestically will help organizations meet data sovereignty requirements and reduce regulatory compliance burdens, making it easier to adopt AI-driven security solutions.
“By providing innovative AI technologies and threat intelligence capabilities while meeting local data sovereignty requirements, we enable organizations to move beyond reactive security,” said Jagdish Mahapatra, Head of Google Cloud Security for Japan and Asia Pacific. “Our platform can reduce investigation times from 30 minutes to just one minute, allowing organizations to build a more proactive defense posture.”
According to a report from the Google Threat Intelligence Group (GTIG), South Korea ranks as the world's third most targeted country for cyber threats. Due to geopolitical factors, organizations in the country frequently face attacks from both state-sponsored threat actors and financially motivated cybercriminals.
Google Cloud plans to expand the adoption of Google SecOps across South Korea's financial sector, government agencies, and digital-native companies. To support this effort, the company is also strengthening partnerships with security service providers including Bespin Global, LG CNS, and MegazoneCloud.
