Volvo Car Korea unveiled its next-generation all-electric flagship sedan, the ES90, in South Korea on July 22, kicking off official sales.
Built on an EV-only architecture, the ES90 is a crossover-style flagship that blends the elegance of a sedan, the fluid lines of a fastback, and the spaciousness of an SUV. It's built on Volvo's advanced SPA2 platform and features a wheelbase of 3,100mm, a figure typically seen in higher-end vehicle classes, giving the cabin a notably spacious, premium feel.
The new model comes equipped with “Hugin Core,” a next-generation intelligent computing platform developed in collaboration with global tech companies including Nvidia and Qualcomm. Powered by a core computer capable of 254 trillion operations per second (TOPS), the system supports over-the-air (OTA) software updates, laying the groundwork for the ES90 to function as a true software-defined vehicle (SDV) that keeps improving over time.
On the safety front, the ES90 features what Volvo calls “Safe Space Technology,” built around five cameras, five radar units, and 12 ultrasonic sensors. The car comes standard with a suite of advanced safety features, including a machine learning-based next-generation Pilot Assist system and an interior sensing system capable of detecting movement down to the sub-millimeter level.
The ES90 will be offered in Korea with three powertrain options, all built on a next-generation 800V high-voltage system: a 92kWh single-motor version, a 106kWh twin-motor version, and a twin-motor Performance version. The car offers a maximum range of up to 706km on a single charge (WLTP standard), and can charge from 10% to 80% in about 22 minutes using a 350kW fast charger.
Pricing in Korea, reflecting expected eco-friendly tax incentives, starts at 72.94 million KRW for the Single Motor Plus trim, followed by 80.55 million KRW for the Single Motor Ultra, 79.6 million KRW for the Twin Motor Plus, 87.41 million KRW for the Twin Motor Ultra, and 95.41 million KRW for the Twin Motor Performance Ultra. That pricing comes in roughly 50 million KRW lower than in other major global markets.
Volvo Car Korea is also offering a package of ownership benefits with the ES90, including a five-year/100,000km free warranty and consumables replacement, an eight-year/160,000km warranty on the high-voltage battery, 15 years of free OTA updates, and a five-year free 5G digital package.
