Hyundai Motor has launched the 2027 Sonata The Edge, an updated version of its flagship midsize sedan, adding more standard convenience features and a new sport-focused trim as it looks to build on the model's recent sales momentum.
The refreshed Sonata is designed to reinforce the model's value proposition in the midsize segment, where it has regained attention for offering more space and features for the money.
Hyundai has introduced a new Black N Line trim, which applies black exterior accents to the range-topping Inspiration model. It combines N Line-specific styling with a black Hyundai emblem, black model lettering, and 19-inch matte-black wheels for a more aggressive and dynamic look.
The company has also expanded features aimed at core retail buyers. The entry-level S trim, priced in the low-KRW30 million range, now comes standard with a power front passenger seat featuring four-way adjustment, relaxation comfort functions, and a walk-in device. The volume-selling Exclusive trim now also offers the Camel interior color previously popular on the flagship Inspiration trim.
The product updates are expected to support the Sonata's ongoing recovery. The nameplate had at one point faced speculation about a possible discontinuation amid the SUV boom and the industry's shift toward electrification. It has since pulled ahead of the Kia K5 and solidified its position as Korea's best-selling midsize sedan.
The Sonata has also benefited as prices for the recently redesigned Hyundai Avante have risen. With the price gap between vehicle segments narrowing, the Sonata's starting price in the high-KRW20 million range—and its broader equipment list in the low-KRW30 million range—have made it a more compelling value proposition.
Pricing for the 2027 Sonata The Edge starts at KRW28.76 million and rises to KRW36.75 million for the Smartstream Gasoline 2.0 lineup. The 1.6-liter turbo model is priced from KRW29.43 million to KRW39.41 million. Hybrid models range from KRW33.28 million to KRW40.52 million after applicable tax incentives.
“The 2027 Sonata The Edge broadens the range of customer choices by expanding the availability of preferred features and adding the Black N Line, which incorporates N Line-exclusive design elements,” a Hyundai Motor official said.
