Hyundai Motor Group announced on the 10th that it has signed a 'Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the Joint Development of Future Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) Aircraft Based on Aerospace Electric Powertrains' with Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI).
The agreement was established to develop competitive future air mobility by combining Hyundai Motor Group's capabilities in aerospace electric powertrain development with KAI's expertise in aircraft body development.
Through the agreement, the two companies plan to collaborate comprehensively, not only in sharing technical and human resources but also in building future supply chains, expanding global certifications, and developing customer networks.
Specifically, Supernal, Hyundai Motor Group's U.S.-based Aam corporation, will jointly develop future air mobility aircraft with KAI. They will also push forward the commercialization of aerospace electric powertrains being developed by the Aerospace Powertrain Division of Hyundai Motor and Kia. Through this, Hyundai Motor Group and KAI intend to identify new areas of cooperation across the entire aviation industry and expand their collaboration.
An official from Hyundai Motor Group said, “The agreement with KAI, a leader in the Korean aerospace industry, is a great source of strength in developing future air mobility,” and added, “We will introduce safe and attractive future air mobility to expand the horizon of mobility into the skies.”
