Toray Advanced Materials Korea held a completion ceremony on June 16 for its second meta-aramid fiber production line at Plant 1 in Gumi, North Gyeongsang Province. The event was attended by about 100 people, including North Gyeongsang Governor Lee Cheol-woo, Gumi Mayor Kim Jang-ho, Tomonobu Nishimura, head of Toray's Fiber Business Division, Motohisa Kuno, chairman of Toray Advanced Materials, and CEO Kim Young-sub.
The newly completed expansion adds 3,000 tons of annual capacity. Combined with its existing facilities, the company now has a total annual production capacity of 5,400 tons, strengthening its ability to meet surging global demand.
Often dubbed a “super fiber,” meta-aramid is a high-performance material known for its exceptional flame retardancy, electrical insulation, and thermal stability. It retains its physical properties even at temperatures above 200 degrees Celsius.
Its applications are expanding rapidly across sectors such as power infrastructure, next-generation mobility, defense, and industrial safety. Demand has also risen recently as AI and data centers expand, making the safety and efficiency of power systems increasingly important.
