SK Hynix announced that it is completely eliminating academic degree requirements for its upcoming entry-level recruitment drive, which begins on June 17, as part of its strategy for the AI era. The South Korean memory chipmaker said the shift aims to prioritize practical job competency and growth potential over formal credentials when scouting new talent.
Under the new policy, the standard prerequisite of holding a four-year bachelor's degree or higher will be removed from all job postings. The company is transitioning to an open hiring model where any candidate can apply and be hired regardless of educational background, provided their experience, practical skills, and cultural fit align with the role.
The overhaul closely aligns with the talent vision of SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won for the AI era. Chey has emphasized the importance of developing three core “muscles” for future professionals: the “thinking muscle” to question assumptions and drill down to fundamental issues, the “adaptive muscle” to respond nimbly to shifting technological landscapes, and the “empathy muscle” to embrace diversity and collaborate flexibly.
“We have innovated our hiring criteria to discover individuals who can creatively solve complex problems in a rapidly changing AI environment,” an SK Hynix spokesperson said.
The company plans to recruit a three-digit number of new hires in this intake -- unusually large for a rolling recruitment cycle. The push will focus heavily on core technical roles such as chip design to drive next-generation semiconductor development. This strategy reflects SK Hynix's bid to secure a competitive edge and lock in future growth drivers in the global AI memory market by aggressively bringing in high-potential talent.
“By onboarding a large wave of promising entry-level talent, we aim to help expand youth employment opportunities,” SK Hynix said in a statement. “We will nurture these individuals to unlock their full potential, ensuring the company maintains its technological leadership in the global AI market.”
Applications for this entry-level recruitment drive will be accepted from June 17 through June 23. Detailed schedules and information on the selection process are available on the official SK Hynix careers website.
