Jusung Engineering has shipped the 'Atomic Layer Growth (ALG)' semiconductor manufacturing equipment, which it developed for the first time in the world. As an unprecedented piece of semiconductor equipment, the company has taken its full-scale steps to preempt the next-generation semiconductor market.
Jusung Engineering announced on the 18th that it held a shipping ceremony for the ALG Transistor Full Integration semiconductor manufacturing equipment on the 16th. Although the company did not specifically disclose the customer's name, it is known to be a global semiconductor manufacturer.
ALG is a technology that utilizes a 'growth' process rather than the existing Atomic Layer Deposition (ALD) to realize semiconductor circuits. Instead of spraying materials that make up semiconductor circuits at the atomic level, it is a method of growing small crystals. It not only reduces the costs of existing deposition and etching processes but also allows the creation of ultra-fine circuits without EUV equipment.
Noticing that next-generation semiconductor transistors are transitioning to a vertically stacked structure, Jusung Engineering developed the ALG equipment in 2024. This was to overcome the limitations of existing circuit miniaturization.
Until now, semiconductor manufacturing processes had to integrate more transistors into a limited space. This is the reason why the technical difficulty of reducing circuit line widths to sub-nanometer (nm) units is growing increasingly. Furthermore, as circuits are miniaturized, leakage current increases, causing power consumption to rise significantly.
Jusung Engineering determined that it could solve various difficult problems by implementing transistors in a vertically stacked structure rather than a horizontal circuit implementation, and thus developed the ALG equipment. By growing circuits to form a 'stacked structure', it ensured high electron mobility, low leakage current, and high thermal stability. The industry's first technological development achievement has materialized with this market supply.
The company plans to apply the ALG technology not only to semiconductors but also to display and solar energy equipment. It added that it is currently collaborating with global companies in North America, Asia, Europe, and the Middle East.
An official at Jusung Engineering, said, “The core is that we are moving beyond simply manufacturing process equipment to create new criteria and standards for semiconductor manufacturing technology in the AI era.” The official added, “Based on our world-first and industry-unique innovative technology, we will continue to present a new paradigm for the global semiconductor, display, and solar energy manufacturing industries.”
