Samsung Electronics has unveiled the world's first gaming monitor to support 6K ultra-high resolution, aiming to reinforce its leadership in the global premium gaming monitor market with high-resolution and high-refresh-rate products.
On June 20, Samsung introduced four new gaming monitor models.
The flagship 32-inch Odyssey G8 supports 6K resolution (6144×3456). Users can freely switch between an ultra-high-resolution mode (6K at 165Hz) and an ultra-high-refresh-rate mode (3K at 330Hz), depending on usage needs.
The 6K mode is designed for visually detailed action games, while the high-refresh-rate mode is optimized for fast-paced genres such as first-person shooters and racing games.
Samsung also introduced a 27-inch Odyssey G8 featuring 5K resolution and refresh rates of up to 180Hz.
A Samsung official explained, “At a typical viewing distance, pixel boundaries become nearly imperceptible at around 220 PPI. We believe 6K for 32-inch displays and 5K for 27-inch displays provide the optimal high-definition experience.”
The company added that the new models deliver sharper text and finer detail compared with existing 32-inch 4K monitors.
Samsung also launched OLED gaming monitors under the Odyssey OLED G8 lineup in 27-inch and 32-inch versions. The products support 4K resolution (3840×2160) and refresh rates of up to 240Hz.
The monitors feature glare-free technology to reduce reflections and improve immersion. Samsung's QD-OLED Pentile Tandem technology was also applied to enhance panel efficiency, brightness, and durability.
The company plans to further expand its OLED gaming monitor portfolio, including new high-refresh-rate OLED products expected to launch beginning next year.
Competition in the premium gaming monitor segment has intensified. Samsung's revenue-based share in the global gaming monitor market declined by 2.1 percentage points last year, partly due to the rapid expansion of affordable LCD products from Chinese manufacturers.
Rather than competing solely on panel specifications, Samsung said it intends to differentiate itself through advanced user experiences. The company plans to strengthen proprietary technologies such as HDR10+ and glare-free displays while maintaining competitiveness in the premium and large-screen gaming monitor market priced above $1,000.
According to market research firm IDC, Samsung ranked No. 1 in the global gaming monitor market in 2025, with an 18.9% revenue share among monitors with refresh rates of 144Hz or higher.
The company also maintained the top position in the OLED monitor market for the third consecutive year with a 26% revenue share.
Lee Heon, Executive Vice President of Samsung Electronics' Visual Display Business, said, “These new products set a new benchmark in the monitor market through ultra-high-resolution technologies including 6K and continued OLED innovation.”
He added, “Samsung will continue strengthening its competitiveness in the global monitor market with the Odyssey lineup.”
