South Korea's rapidly expanding space sector is drawing intense global interest, and New Space Systems (NSS), a premier global spacecraft component manufacturer, aims to play a pivotal role in this growth by strengthening its partnership with local distributor Telcom.
“South Korea boasts an incredibly fast-growing space market that has caught the attention of the global community,” said Michael Dowles, Senior Technical Sales Engineer at NSS, during his recent visit to Daejeon for the International Space Summit (ISS) 2026. “NSS is fully committed to contributing to the advancement of the South Korean market and its broader ecosystem alongside our partner, Telcom.”
Headquartered in South Africa, NSS is a leading international manufacturer of critical spacecraft systems. Its extensive product portfolio covers essential satellite technologies, including reaction wheels, magnetic torquers, sun sensors, magnetometers, and GNSS receivers and antennas. The company also supplies Radio Frequency (RF) communication equipment such as S-band transceivers. With hardware integrated into more than 2,500 spacecraft across 38 countries, NSS has built a strong reputation for reliability, which has underpinned its global expansion into the United States, the United Kingdom and the Netherlands.
Dowles highlighted South Korea as a premier high-growth market for the company, noting that the country's advanced technological capabilities, industrial maturity and strong national commitment to expanding its space sector make it a vital strategic hub for NSS.
He also expressed strong confidence in South Korea's long-term potential. “The South Korean government continues to scale up its aerospace ambitions, shifting focus toward increasingly complex missions and satellite constellation deployments,” Dowles noted. “By plugging into an ecosystem where the government, state-run research institutes and major commercial enterprises collaborate, we aim to build meaningful business opportunities across a wide spectrum of space applications.” He added that NSS views South Korea not merely as a commercial market but as a strategic partner in the global space landscape.
To solidify this vision, NSS is actively reinforcing its local partnerships, which was a primary reason behind its participation in this year's ISS. Central to this strategy is its ongoing collaboration with Telcom to expand its footprint in the region.
“NSS and Telcom share a unified goal: fostering the sustainable growth and long-term development of the South Korean space ecosystem,” Dowles said. “By combining Telcom's deep market insights and local network with NSS's flight-proven heritage and manufacturing excellence, we are building a robust foundation for future collaboration.”
