Oura, the global leader in the smart ring market, is officially launching in South Korea. Beyond device sales, the company is focusing on establishing a subscription-based healthcare service that continuously analyzes health data such as sleep and recovery.
Oura announced its official entry into the Korean market during a media briefing held at Lotte World Tower in Songpa-gu, Seoul, on the 18th.
The latest smart ring, Oura Ring 5, will go on sale in South Korea starting the 25th. This marks Oura's first official entry into the Korean market.
The Oura Ring 5 is designed to be approximately 40% smaller than its predecessor, measuring 6.09mm in width and 2.27mm in thickness. It measures heart rate, heart rate variability (HRV), body temperature, blood oxygen levels, and analyzes over 50 health metrics, including sleep, activity, stress, and women's health.

Oura's core focus in the Korean market is health data and insights, rather than hardware. Over the past 12 years, the company has accumulated expertise in measuring and analyzing biometric data centered on sleep and recovery. This foundation has enabled it to maintain the global market share leader position (74% according to last year's Omdia survey). Instead of targeting specific age groups, the company plans to appeal to a broad consumer base with diverse health needs, including fitness, sleep, women's health, and cardiovascular management.
Oura emphasized efforts to enhance localization. The strategy involves adapting not only products and apps but also marketing and customer support systems to the domestic environment before entering the market.
George Abbot, Oura's General Manager for Europe, Middle East, Africa, and Asia-Pacific, stated, “We focused on entering the market correctly rather than quickly,” adding, “South Korea is a key strategic market with high technological maturity and significant interest in health.”
Collaborations with local partners are also underway. Oura has formed a launch partnership with Lotte and will operate an exclusive pop-up store at Lotte World Mall from the 25th to September 7th. The company also plans to expand marketing investments through domestic platforms like Naver and Kakao. Additionally, 34 offline AS centers and call centers nationwide will be operational.
Key variables for Oura Ring's success in Korea include its high product price and monthly subscription fee. The domestic prices for Oura Ring 5 are 630,000 KRW for Black and Silver, and 780,000 KRW for Gold, Stealth, Brushed Silver, and Deep Rose. Compared to Samsung Galaxy Ring, which is sold in the 500,000 KRW range, Oura's starting price is significantly higher. Furthermore, accessing detailed health data and personalized insights requires a separate monthly membership subscription of 9,400 KRW.

Abbett, the general manager, stated, “We believe the real purchasing value lies in the app and insights rather than the hardware,” adding, “Over 80% of members who subscribed for a year have continued their membership.” He emphasized, “Based on our long-accumulated sensing technology, health data, and scientifically validated insights, we will convey Oura's unique value to Korean consumers.”
